Both nationally and at Williams, STEM+ fields have a history of poor representation of women and students of color. Our event is aimed at discussing the experiences of underrepresented minorities in STEM+ and finding ways to improve student experiences and increase participation in these fields. We will begin with a panel of students from underrepresented identities in STEM+ fields sharing their experiences. We will then open a general discussion of student experiences in Division III classes. Based on these experiences, we will brainstorm ways that departments could be more supportive of underrepresented students, and think about translating these ideas into concrete strategies. Sponsored by the Association for Women in Mathematics and B-STEM.
