Where is the Engagement?

9:15 – 10:45 a.m. Goodrich Hall

Student engagement in roles of leadership has been suffering, both at Williams and other colleges across the country. We have seen this in both college council elections and general club membership. What do we think is causing this disinterest in these leadership structures? Some propose that with the increased diversification of Williams, more groups have formed with informal leadership and membership structures, leaving students less time to engage with the traditional structures. Others say the heavy academic workload doesn’t leave enough time to participate. We will have a panel of students, staff, and faculty with a diversity of opinions on the subject discussing the current climate around engagement. After the panel, we will then have small group discussions where the audience can take part in the conversation.
