Fiona Dawson, co-director of TransMilitary, will participate in a discussion following the 9:15 am film screening. Dawson is an award winning director, producer & writer, LGBTQ advocate. She directed the Emmy nominated op-doc Transgender, at War and in Love, commissioned by The New York Times. and has served on the Board of Directors for the Human Rights Campaign and NLGJA (The Association of LGBTQ Journalists). In 2015 she was honored by the White House as an LGBTQ Artist Champion of Change. Fiona has previously filmed stories in India on sex trafficking, prostitution and HIV/AIDS.
Other panelists will include Jacob Eleazer, doctoral candidate, Leo Haines ’21, and Landon Marchant ’20.
Jacob Eleazer served in the Kentucky National Guard and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Louisville counseling psychology program. He is on the Executive Board for SPART*A, a national association for active duty transgender service members.
Landon Marchant is a sociology major, veteran of the United States Air Force, former skilled trades apprentice, and Point Foundation scholar. They have held numerous leadership roles in SPART*A since its inception in 2013.
Leo Haines is of Chinese and Colombian descent and is a prospective Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies major. He created Beyond the Binary, the first peer-led support group for gender non confirming youth in Miami-Dade. On campus he is a Community Builder with the Davis Center and the Office of Accessible Education.
